I am wondering if there is any free cloud computing resource for processing NGS/bioinformatic data. Is there any study on cost effectiveness on using services like Amazon AWS?

See also: Free Linux server for bio-computing? I think that usegalaxy https://usegalaxy.org/ provides galaxy access free of charge. In general, use of resources costs money for electricity, deprecation, hardware, maintenance, personnel, ... So it cannot be free for anyone, they just might get the funding from somewhere else. "There's no free lunch".

Using a cloud instance is maybe an effective (not necessarily most cost efficient) way of making these costs explicit. (Otherwise it's harder, e.g. "How much is the extra cost for using this existing computer, so all other processes will slow down a little? Use the admin for 2 days so he/she can't help other users", "What's the CO2 fingerprint of having fat servers running idle most of the day?") Good accountants should (in the future) make a project plan that includes a post for using computational resources. It is not really good planning to spend all money on sequencing, and none on computation.
