It depends on what you want to do with the images. It is fine to reuse images in a presentation with appropriate credit. For publication, you can ask permission to re-use/adapt figures from other papers. I occasionally build such images from parts found on the internet using Google images, the advanced search allows to find free-to-use images.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Wikimedia Commons.
