BLAST parameters and explanation

What is a good hit in a blast mean ?? Which parameters should be taken in to account for calculatibg a good hit?? What if i get 78 hits while doibg a blastn or p search with evalue ranging from 0 to 98e-16 is it a good hit?? When i do a blastn or p search how will i know query sequence matches with the database...to be more specific with the help of what parameters and tools i confirm out that particular protein or nucleotide from the query sequence is present in the database... Please help..it might sound basic but the help will be really appreciated..

There is plenty of information available at NCBI's BLAST help page. You should go through the materials there. Then ask specific questions for things you have doubts about.
