Interesting paper published on crowdfunding in research: Crowdfunding genomics and bioinformatics

It introduces "Microryza", a dedicated crowdfunding website for scientific research. It also describes experience of three group of scientists in crowdfunding their projects in the fields of Genomics and Bioinformatics.

IMHO what should really be crowdfunded are tools that work well and are well documented covering the corner cases and difficult to interpret scenarios rather than the generic, easy situations.

I think that would have greater impact.
