We are in process of establishing a faculty of Bioinformatics and Computational biology at our engineering oriented university. I have to pick out books which are to be ordered for our library. Can anyone here guide me in selecting beginner, intermediate and a few books on various topics in Bioinformatics and Computational and Mathematical Biology.
I don't see how this can be considered a duplicate, both those threads are 4 years old and the answer/recommendation(s) for this kind of question does not stay constant. Its worth revisiting once in a while.
Introduction to Bioinformatics Algorithms - 04 edition by Neil C. Jones and Pavel A. Pevzner
(Explains and teaches algorithmic principles that are generally applied in Bioinformatics)
Bioinformatics - Sequence and Genome Analysis, Second Edition by David Mount
(Excellent book for bioinformatics introductory courses for both life sciences and computer science students)
A non-bioinformatics book but really good to learn genomics
Genomes 3 - T A Brown
(Covers molecular genetics, genome sequencing and functional genomics)
Biological Sequence Analysis: Probabilistic Models of Proteins and Nucleic Acids
Richard Durbin (Author), Sean R. Eddy (Author), Anders Krogh (Author), Graeme Mitchison (Author)
A great theoretical book regarding the main computational biology problems and algorithms.
An Introduction to Systems Biology: Design Principles of Biological Circuits
Uri Alon (Author)
This one is more a niche book but it's an important niche.
And you should also have some basic biology books like Lehninger or Lodish.
