Good evening everyone, delighted to be with you.

I have just started in the field of bioinformatics however I am a biologist by training and I want to specialize in bioinformatics. So I would like to please ask you the concepts to master and know so that I can fully understand the concepts of bioinformatics.

I was trained in a wet lab too and learned computational biology by myself. You want to learn linux commands first and then a programming language such as R or python. you can then go through a workflow for analyzing a data type and apply it to your own data The best way to learn is by doing it yourself.

you may find this video helpful 6-step framework to learn computational biology

In addition to the above comments by Pierre and Ming Tommy Tang, here are some useful links to get you started:

1) For concepts, I really like Ben Langmead's playlist Algorithms for DNA sequencing
2) The data carpentry genomics workshop is a great resource to get started (& you can also find great introductions on e.g. Python and Bash (i.e. the Linux command line) in the Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry workshop curricula)
3) Check out rosalind, if you want to get your hands dirty.
