I am looking for tools and softwares that could help me visualize moving cell compartments in 3D where I can go from the cell membrane to the ER, then out with the protein into the matrix. In short a 3D visualization of the cell environment.
Since I am a newbie, I would really appreciate any tool/software suggestion for me to try.
Biorender is a very popular option. It is a commercial application that requires a license. There is a free version that has limitations. You could give it a try, if you don't find any other options.
May I ask what the intended audience and purpose is? Do you have a particular project in mind or do you want to become a biomedical illustrator? Does it need to be in 3D? Do you have any source data from imaging?
Generally speaking, I think there exist numerous tools that can animate and render either protein structures (e.g. UCSF Chimera) or use segmented-compartmentalized high-resolution microscopic images accordingly, but both depend on the availability of the respective data.
Alternatively, you can use standard animation tools like Blender, but then you will need to build up your scenes step by step artificially, because I guess that cellular structures are not very commonplace in public item collections for free usage? In that case, you should start with the default Blender workshops until you mastered the basics before switching to the real biological project.
