Hi biostar, I was thinking that biostar admin team should introduce a mobile app and something like database having the different command line tools and it’s ranking with usefulness. I know GitHub has all about different biological tools but some better way.

Why don't you start the project and make some significant headway before asking expert volunteers here for more of their time?

Apps are transient, the web lasts. "usefulness" is subjective - ranking by "usefulness" makes no sense. Can you rank samtools, bcftools, HaplotypeCaller, Mutect2, Picard, bcftools, GISTIC2.0, plink by "usefulness"? Can you even rank a chef's knife, a machete and a chainsaw by "usefulness"? Unless you know if you're chopping a carrot or felling a tree, ranking makes no sense.

Agreed, and that's what benchmarking studies are for. The website is also perfectly usable via any browser on mobile.

I couldn't agree more.

here are the top 100 bioconda tools by download: https://github.com/leipzig/biocondastats/blob/main/top100.tsv

not sure this would be terribly useful for biostars, which is a Q&A site. what exactly do you want to see?

I do not see the application of your suggestion. Biostars integrates well with any current browser on mobile devices (seconding jared.andrews07) and there is not really much more that biostars offers to the average user than seeing the website, reading and posting answers and comments, doing upvotes. That is already supported. Also, databases already exist that list tools, and there is also some good GitHub repositories manually curated by volunteers, for example towards tools for a specific niche application, datasets related to a certain question/technology etc. You just need to use them. Please understand that efforts such as developing take time, plus it needs to be maintained, any everyone here is an unpaid volunteer. So it would generally be appreciated that you offer upfront effort when making such suggestions. What is also appreciated (might be a language barrier) are terms such as "could you please" or "would be appreciated" and "I am willing to help". That goes for any interaction with volunteers.
